Najera -  Santo Domingo de la Calzada    21 kms

A short, cool day.  Arrived at Santo Domingo by 1:30pm. Good. Staying at a religious donativo - which is supposed to be by donation - but they "expect" 7 Euros. Big, modern comfortable facility - and two lower bunk- beds. Yeah!
We went out for a "fancy" lunch. We thought we were early arriving at 2pm - but most folks didn't  show until 3 pm. For 2 or 3 more Euros than the typical Pilgrim menu, one can get a very fine 3 course meal at a nice restaurant  - 13 Euros in this case. Added a lovely bottle of Viura, and all was well.
This is a sophisticated small town. It has a long history with pilgrims and a famous cathedral within a resident chicken. A long tale  from the 13th Century - suffice to say the dead chicken came back to life, which saved some pilgrim's life - hence resident chickens.
We are at the end of La Rioja. The vineyards are ending. Most of our friends are staying here so should be a nice evening. A longer day tomorrow.
