Burgos - Hontanas     32 kms

Thank goodness there was a cool wind at our backs for most of the day today because it was a long day - about 20 miles. The Meseta lives up to its billing - stark expanse of long, empty horizons. Fortunately today was not hot because there is absolutely no shade. This would not be much fun in hot weather.
After we checked into our very pretty albergue in this tiny village, the person in charge asked me where I was from. Turns out he and his brother are Cubanos and manage this place for the owner. They work here during the pilgrim season and go back to Cuba during the off-season. The albergue closes in 10 days. Their grandparents were Spanish, so he can come and go as he pleases. Despite his university degree he can make much, much more running this albergue than he could in Cuba.....We had an interesting chat. I was the second Cubano pilgrim he has met in his 3 years in Hontanas.
